Fire Chief, Barry Carrier joined the Elizabethton Fire Department in 1994. Chief Carrier served 8 years as Fire Marshal before being promoted to the rank of Fire Chief on December 1st of 2008. Before coming to work for EFD, Chief Carrier worked as a Paramedic for the Carter County Rescue Squad.
Chief Carrier also previously served 21 years as a member of the Army National Guard's 776th Maintenance Company before retiring from the Army Reserves in 2001. Chief Carrier was the 1st Unit Commander of the 776th Mountain City Detachment as a Lieutenant and served 1 year as Maintenance Control Officer for the 776th during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
Deputy Fire Chief, Steve Murray has been a member of the Elizabethton Fire Department since 1993 and was promoted to the rank Deputy Chief on October 22, 2018. Chief Murray had served the previous 15 years as Shift Captain/Battalion Chief. Before coming to work for EFD, Chief Murray worked as an EMT for the Carter County Rescue Squad and is also a former member of Watauga VFD.
Fire Marshal/Captain, Andy Hardin has been a member of the Elizabethton Fire Department since 2002. Captain Hardin had spent the previous 6 years as an Engineer before being promoted to the rank of Fire Marshal on November 2nd, 2015. Captain Hardin is only the 5th Fire Marshal in EFD history. Captain Hardin got his start as a member of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Captain Hardin is also a Tennessee State licensed Electrician.
