Water Resources
Elizabethton Water Resources serves an area of about 75 square miles with approximately 269 miles of water line in the distribution system and approximately 70 miles of sewer line in the collection system. The department has 11 storage reservoirs, ranging from 30,000 gallons to 1,000,000 gallons, and 9 booster pump stations used to pump water from one location to another and to fill the storage reservoirs. Elizabethton is also home to an award winning Waste Water Treatment plant that has received recognition at the annual Kentucky/Tennessee Water Professionals Conference for 10 consecutive years.
The City has approximately 11,448 water connections and 7,000 sewer connections that serve an estimated population of 28,337 in Elizabethton and Carter County. The system has a total storage capacity of 6.9 million gallons and pumps approximately 6.0 million gallons daily from three separate springs. Water is currently obtained from four sources: Hampton Spring, Valley Forge Spring, Big Springs and Watauga River Regional Water Authority.
