Elizabethton City Judge Lewis Merryman has held court as city judge of
Elizabethton for 23 years.
Merryman hears cases pertaining to violation of city ordinances
including moving violations and property use violations.
One of only two city judges in Tennessee that are elected by popular
vote, Merryman holds court Monday and Thursday afternoon in council
chambers of Elizabethton City Hall.
Merryman earned his L.L.B. and his law degree from the Cumberland
School of Law. He was in private law practice before becoming city
judge.
He is past president of the Carter County Bar Association and
Elizabethton Optimist Club. He is a member of the American Legion and
Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations.
He is married to Peggy Merryman who is a former mayor of Elizabethton.
