Annual Community Events

The Recreation Center hosts several annual community events throughout the year sponsored by various groups in Elizabethton including the Friends of the Library, The Carter County School System, Women's Civic Club and the GFWC. Carter County Headstart and Kindergarten Registration: Each year around March / April the Carter County School System has their annual registration for headstart and kindergarten. Hundreds of families are served during this time as registration, hearing, eyesight and health consults are performed. This event takes place in the gymnasium, all classrooms and the party room.

Semi-Annual Friends of the Library Sale- The Friends of the Library conduct their semi-annual sale in the spring and again in the fall to raise funds for the Elizabethton / Carter County Public Library by selling their used and donated books. This event draws multitudes of people and raises thousands of dollars for their organization.

Women's Civic Club Second Time Around Sale- This sale takes place late summer/early fall and raises funds for scholarships provided by the Women's Civic Club. This sale features new and gently used clothing, household items, furniture, toys, boutique clothing and more. 

GFWC Christmas Craft Show- This event takes place in November each year and is a community favorite. What was once featured at Sycamore Shoals State Park this sale now fills up the entire Recreation Center with hundreds of booths of hand crafted items by local artists.
